Their leadership, determination, and passionate voices will be missed. We thank them for their time in service to our region and the institute at large. AIA Western Mountain Region Conference: Be sure to register and arrange travel plans to the 2019WMR Conference in Jackson, Wyoming! AIA WMR Conference - Looking Forward The AIAWestern Mountain Regional Council is strategically aligned with and supportive of, furthering the mission and goals of the region and the institute, in order to facilitate communication between the Institute Strategic Council and this region and its members, thereby advancing the objectives of both the institute and the region, unifying their efforts, and providing advocacy on the issues pertinent to its members and the profession. Although our regional conference has proven to be a staple of collegiate network building for decades within the past 5-10 years, the WMR Conference has been seeing reductions in attendance, questions of membership value, and substantial differences in host state participation as well as resource allocation. In 2018, this has moved to the main topic of regional concern and was briefly discussed at our winter Leadership Summit in Salt Lake City. Through this conversation, it was determined that the value of the WMR Conference should be found in the building of networks and connections between states with a common purpose. A face-to-face gathering is vital to ensure these connections and solidify institutional memory and is incredibly beneficial to share ideas and receive training to educate and strengthen our members (e.g. leadership training, diversity training, advocacy training, marketing/prosperity development training). In the years ahead, the WMR Conference will be migrating to more of a leadership summit type event but will be required to include: • Regional Business Meeting/Elections • Programs or opportunities to educate and allow for discussion of priorities and issues facing the region as well as future regional organizational planning • Design and Honor Awards program • WMR Pettigrew Leadership Scholarship awareness and fundraising • Governmental Advocacy education and fundraising (ArchiPAC) This event shall continue to be hosted on a rotating basis by each of the State Components of the Western Mountain Region; however they WMR and National Update BY NATE HUDSON, WMR REGIONAL DIRECTOR
