March 6th, 2019, was spent on Capitol Hill preparing for and visiting our senators and representatives. We had a strong representation from the Western Mountain Region. There were 47 WMR members attending Grassroots; • Arizona: 12 • Colorado: 5 • New Mexico: 8 • Nevada: 9 • Utah: 10 • Wyoming: 1 Energy efficiency in existing buildings and School Safety were the two topic areas that members present spent their time working on with their representatives and senators. To note: the AIA Nevada delegation’s photo was featured in Architect Magazine’s April 2019 issue covering Grassroots! Elect, AIA Northern Nevada • John Copoulos, AIA — Former AIANN and AIAN President, AIA Nevada Government Affairs Liaison Thursday, March 7, included the WMR business meeting, with a recap of the ABQ Leadership Summit, Strategic Council topics, Pettigrew scholarship, and the WMR 60th-anniversary celebration in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. A presentation of AIA national efforts on K-12 education was given by Del Ruff AIA.
