AIA Western Mountain Region Conference: 2019 JacksonWyoming 2020 Albuquerque NewMexico AIA WMR Conference — Looking Forward August 2019 The AIAWestern Mountain Regional Executive Committee is strategically aligned with, and supportive of, furthering the mission and goals of the Region and the Institute. In order to facilitate communication between the institute’s strategic council, this region, and its members, we advance the objectives of both the institute and the region, unifying their efforts, and providing advocacy on the issues pertinent to its members and the profession. Through these recent years, it’s been made apparent that the current framework of the WMR Conference and the expectations it puts on our host chapters need to be reviewed and perhaps restructured to meet changing member values, organizational structures, and leadership expectations. Over the past two years, the WMR executive committee has worked on surveying members of the WMR council, WMR members at large, and also look at best practices from other multistate regions regarding face-to-face meeting opportunities and corresponding regional member value. The executive committee has concluded that current values held by members of our region as it related to the existing WMR Conference are found in the following areas: 1. The building of networks and connections between states with a common purpose. 2. The Regional business meeting, elections/appointees to the national Strategic Council. 3. Opportunities for discussion of critical issues facing the profession. 4. Opportunities for discussion for future regional organizational planning.  — continued on page 26
