At anywhere between 5 and 15 millimeters, honey bees don’t let their size stop them from pollinating nearly 80% of all fruit, vegetable, and seed crops in the United States. Communication is key to that kind of productivity. Interestingly enough, a 40,000- strong colony communicates by dancing—a lot more fun than a company-wide email. And before you swat at the next one you see, know that Apis mellifera is the only insect to provide food for humans. Pretty sweet, right?
