30 NORTHERN NEVADA ARCHITECTECTURE .19 | 2019 | www.aiann.org COMMERCIAL — WOOD RODGERS OFFICE BUILDING T he Wood Rodgers Office Building provides an energizing new start for Wood Rodger’s growing staff. Our design focus was to create a collaborative space that spoke to the engineering functions of the business. The lobby is designed to be both inviting and authoritative, and opens onto large and small conference rooms with full-height glass walls screened with images of historic Reno structures. The primary open office space features a high, sloping roof supported by slender exposed steel trusses offset by large round light fixtures that punctuate work spaces. North-facing clerestory windows provide daylight to the deep building footprint and give lightness to the roof. Daylighting was further improved by using sliding glass walls between the perimeter private offices and the interior open office space. The interior space planning, which was a joint effort with Wood Rodgers, balances areas for group work and gathering with private offices and open office work stations. The exterior materials Architect: CWX Architect Contractor: Miles Construction Year Completed: 2016 (CMU, exposed steel, stucco, and metal panels) invoke the permanence and utilitarianism of a well-engineered structure. Bright red corrugated metal panels were used to accent the entry and assist in wayfinding. We used structural insulated panels for the roof system, which saved on costs and time by providing structure, excellent insulation value and interior finish surface in one product. The design won the 2016 Summit Award for best office building. b MERIT
